What we do

Quantity Surveying

A quantity surveyor (QS) is a professional working within the construction industry and is concerned with construction costs and contracts.

Services provided by a quantity surveyor may include:

  • Cost planning and commercial management throughout the entire life cycle of the project from inception to post-completion
  • Value determination
  • Risk management and calculation
  • Procurement advice and assistance during the tendering procedures
  • Tender analysis and agreement of the contract sum
  • Commercial management and contract negotiation
  • Interim valuations and payment assessment
  • Cost management process
  • Assessing the additional costs of design variations
  • Production of company pre-qualification questionnaire (PQQ) documentation in line with company policies.

Adjudication

The legal landscape is changing.

On October 1, 2019, the prompt payment and adjudication regimes will change the way construction projects operate in Ontario. The Ontario Construction Lien Act will become the Construction Act as this name change reflects the broader scope of the legislation.

Not only has the Act been revised, but several entirely new sections have been added to the Act.

The adjudication process for Ontario’s construction industry has the potential to resolve payments in a timely fashion, but companies need to start preparing for the coming changes. To avoid costly missteps, one will need a clear understanding of the changes and practical guidance from industry experts to successfully navigate these new fast-track systems.

Regulations under the new Construction Act are pointing out that adjudicators must have at least 10 years of experience in the construction industry, for example, as an accountant, architect, engineer, quantity surveyor, project manager, lawyer or arbitrator.

Tamkali provides practical answers to contractual and commercial challenges and with a wealth of construction experience as well as experience in dispute resolution we are at the forefront to support and implement fair determinations in construction disputes through Adjudication. As provincial and federal reforms are introduced and implemented, we are well placed to service the construction and engineering sectors in Canada.

Will and his Tamkali team recently provided contract management support for my project services department while at Ivanhoe Cambridge. Their team was efficient and very professional. The excellent service of Tamkali enabled us to clear the commercial backlog in a relatively short time and helped us out tremendously. Thanks Tamkali!
